Demand is increasing for fast, convenient and eco-friendly mobility. Transport companies and -authorities must think ahead: to alternative means of transport. The mobility service provider of the future will not only offer car- and bike-sharing as a core part of multimodal journey planning. Passengers will also be able to book these services directly – with the MENTZ app.

Using the app, passengers can directly access alternative mobility services in the journey planner. Available sharing services are attached via external interfaces. – Here the realization for the “VAG mobile”-app of the Freiburg Transport Authority with bike-sharing company nextbike.
The user starts by selecting a rental station via an interactive map. To link the system (here: “Frelos” rental bikes) optimally to bus and rail, public transportation stops in the vicinity are displayed.
If more than one sharing station is available, stations can be filtered and limited to certain providers.
If the user has selected a rental station, all the vehicles available there (here: bikes) are displayed. As soon as he rents one, the booking process begins.
If the user is already at the rental station, he simply scans the QR code of the bike he wants with his smartphone’s camera, and the rental or booking process begins. This works even in the dark – the user can just switch on his terminal device’s flashlight.
Users can plan a journey first and then decide based on the specific route whether to book a car/bike. – The app coordinates your association’s timetables and sharing offerings.
Much like car sharing, the user can temporarily park the bike and pause the rental.
Closing the U-lock in “park mode” does not constitute the end of the rental. The user can later …
… continue travelling with the same bike.
If the user wishes to end the rental, he simply closes the lock on the bike (or locks the car – this feature is still at the planning stage). The customer is billed via the sharer’s financial service provider. The connection is with OAuth technology.
