On-demand transportation can be integrated seamlessly into the existing public transportation system. After origin, destination, and desired departure time are entered, possible connections with classical public transportation and on-demand bus are output.
For example, the passenger is offered an on-demand bus to the next commuter railway station.
The user can call up the entire trip via an app and book and pay for it online. The booking process is started simply by clicking the “Book online” button.
The passenger then selects the number of tickets he needs. He can also indicate whether he needs extra room for such items as wheelchairs or strollers.
Booking requests are processed directly. If a booking is successful, the passenger immediately receives a confirmation. The background system is from MENTZ, of course.
In the “My bookings” area, the passenger can view booked trips and change them at any time before they begin.
Bookings can be freely cancelled at any time.
In the so-called driver app, drivers can call up and display on-demand trips relevant to them. The exact route option is noted for each trip, as are the individual stops with departure and arrival times.
At each stop, the driver is notified of any strollers, wheelchairs, or luggage that is to be loaded.
An algorithm optimizes and pools trip requests from individual passengers to create trips. Vehicles are deployed more efficiently.
On-demand transportation can be conveniently captured in the background system as route or area. Routes have pre-defined stops (red), while areas encompass a stop area with pre-defined virtual stopping points (blue). Within these stop areas, the passenger can board or alight wherever he wants.
The driver app constantly reports the position of all vehicles to the connected background system. This allows planned route options to be compared to the routes that are actually driven. Automatic billing and other statistical analyses can also be performed.
