Mainz Mobility Relies On DIVA and GENIOS
The Mainz Transport Authority (MVG) relies on the latest timetabling and duty scheduling by MENTZ. In the state capital of Rhineland-Palatinate, the dialog-controlled transport management and information system (DIVA) and the modern GENIOS framework developed by MENTZ will be the power tools for bus and rail transport planning at the MVG.
In a European-wide tender, MENTZ was able to win out against a number of competitors, earning particularly high marks for our simulation of e-bus blocks, said Jens Krotwaart, project manager at MENTZ.
The MVG will now begin using the new DIVA Client and GENIOS optimization tool for route planning and duty and vehicle scheduling. “Visible new features include the modern user interface, where the most important key performance indicators (KPIs) are displayed. This simplifies the planning process and controlling for MVG’s transport planners and ensures greater efficiency when assigning drivers and deploying vehicles,” said Krotwaart.
At its core, the GENIOS optimization tool employs a so-called “genetic algorithm”: calculated solutions are continually recombined to achieve the best results – almost like evolution at hyperspeed! In this manner, GENIOS achieves optimal results in the shortest amount of time with full control over the parameters entered.
“What is considered the most important variable during optimization is decided by the human transport planner, not the software,” said Dr. Markus-Ludwig Wermer, Head Optimization Developer at MENTZ. “This ensures full transparency during optimization. GENIOS is fully integrated into all DIVA processes.”
Each year, “Mainz Mobility” transports over 56 million passengers using 30 bus lines and five tram lines. Neighboring Rhein-Neckar Transport (rnv), which operates in Heidelberg, Mannheim, and Ludwigshafen, has also recently started using the GENIOS optimization framework.
“We look forward to working with MVG and congratulate them on their choice for a modern route planning and duty and vehicle scheduling system,” said Christoph Mentz, Managing Director of MENTZ GmbH.
